When the UK’s only B-Corp certified compliance scheme needed to find a new Chairperson to support shareholders, Netiro delivered not one but two candidates with a perfect fit.
Ecosurety is the only B-Corp certified compliance scheme in the UK and helps over 1,000 well-known consumer brands meet their packaging sustainability commitments and stay on the right side of regulations.
When CEO Will Ghali needed to support his shareholders in identifying and appointing a new chair, he asked Netiro founder Tim Gear-Evans to submit a proposal.
Tim met shareholders to explore their requirements, and following a competitive process, Netiro was selected to deliver the brief.
Understanding
The first task was to meet stakeholders to deepen our understanding of Ecosurety’s challenges, aspirations, and direction of travel.
The challenge would be to identify candidates with the right personality profile; the skills and knowledge to support the organisation’s data-driven journey; and ethical, sustainability credentials that would align with Ecosurety’s values – purpose, profit, and people.
Process
With the timeline and internal processes agreed, we began our research. Netiro goes beyond skills and experience in our search, seeking to identify the broadest range of talent to constructively challenge thinking and support objectives.
This research, combined with results from Ecosurety’s own external promotion of the role, produced 97 possible candidates in just two weeks. We filtered this to 30, conducted initial interviews and drew up detailed profiles on each candidate before filtering further.
We brought Will and his stakeholders ten for in-depth discussion – all competent, with individual personality traits and experience that could support the organisation in different ways. This diversity helped hone critical thinking and the discussion identified a shortlist of five, with two reserves.
Two rounds of interviews and psychometric testing reduced the number to two, and both spent a half-day with Ecosurety’s majority shareholder before the final decision was made.
Success
Of the two remaining candidates, the chair role was offered to Adam Freeman. However, Ecosurety stakeholders identified a strong fit with the second candidate, so extended an offer for a different role supporting the wider group.
Supporting a values-driven organisation making a meaningful and thought-driven impact on the environment was a delight. Ecosurety feels like a family, and their openness to respectful challenge meant we could use all our tools and experience to present the broadest possible options, securing offers for not one, but two top level candidates.
